Schuylkill Rivermonsters & Market St Mayhem

The Greater Philadelphia College Box Lacrosse League (GPCBLL) is an opportunity for college athletes to get exposure to the National Lacrosse League (NLL). During it’s inaugural season in 2024, the GPCBLL contained 3 teams competing in the Philadelphia area, with the winning team to be set to Nationals to fight for the title. With the kickstart of the league and alongside the Philadelphia Wings, Philly’s professional lacrosse team, my colleagues and I at Comcast Spectacor each grabbed a team a curated an entire brand kit complete with a logo suite and uniform designs.

With being tasked 2 teams to create logos and uniforms, I wanted to make sure they were different enough to stand out but cohesive to ensure a league standard. Starting with sketches, I could see the Schuylkill Rivermonster in my head and it felt right to curate a color palette filled with bright, neon, borderline toxic waste-y colors. As for Mayhem, tornadoes were prominent in the ideation process that I kept going back to, fitted with stormy, skyline colors complimented with street sign, kelly green. Mayhem took me a few revisions to really iron out the composition and colors, the league really wanted to see more city elements swooped up into the tornado but as a logo it proved to be too many elements and details to balance for the versatility that it needs to uphold.
